A B-1/B-2 applicant from Hyderabad recently shared their visa appointment booking experience on Reddit. The applicant explained how they secured a slot independently using official procedures without hiring agents.
By following this approach, the applicant avoided common booking scams in India and saved on agent fees. They suggested starting the process by carefully filling out the DS-160 form with accurate details.
After submitting the DS-160 form, applicants must pay the required visa fee of $185. The next step is creating accounts on both US Travel Docs and the US Visa Scheduling portals.
New accounts usually show appointment slots that are several months away. The applicant advised monitoring the portal regularly to find earlier dates when they become available.
They recommended checking the website at fixed intervals instead of repeatedly refreshing the page. Excessive activity may trigger security limits and temporarily lock the account.
According to the applicant, logging in no more than five times a day is safer. Each session should last only about 10 to 15 minutes to avoid system restrictions.
The applicant also mentioned that slots are often released on the hour or every half hour. Checking at times like 9:00 pm or 9:30 pm may improve chances of finding an earlier appointment.
Booking the earliest available slot, even in another city, can act as a backup. Applicants are allowed to reschedule twice without paying an additional fee.
With careful monitoring and controlled login activity, the applicant claimed it is possible to secure a visa appointment slot within a week.
