Veteran actor Akhilendra Mishra, known for films like Lagaan, Gangaajal, and Shootout at Lokhandwala, has shared strong views on the acting styles seen in many OTT productions today.
In a recent podcast interaction, Akhilendra Mishra spoke about a growing misconception among actors. He said many believe that delivering dialogues in a low voice automatically makes their performance appear intense or superior.
According to him, this trend is heavily influenced by English-language cinema. Actors often try to imitate Western performers, where low-pitched dialogue suits the language and style of storytelling.
However, Akhilendra Mishra stressed that Hindi does not work the same way. He explained that using a low tone in Hindi makes dialogues unclear and difficult to understand, which weakens the impact of the performance.
He also pointed out that several OTT shows regularly feature actors who rely on low tonal delivery and poor punctuation. Many of them believe this approach reflects strong acting, which he feels is misleading.
While some viewers feel his comments indirectly target popular OTT actors like Jaideep Ahlawat, Manoj Bajpayee, and KK Menon, the actor did not name anyone directly.
Many users online have agreed with Akhilendra Mishra’s observations. If any actor chooses to respond, the discussion could soon turn into a larger debate within the Indian film industry.
Veteran Akhilendra Mishra exposes web series and so called realistic actors who hide their limited range on the facade of “subtle acting”.
