Amazon Prime Video has reportedly removed its AI powered video recap feature after facing strong backlash from subscribers. The decision comes within a month of the feature being introduced.
The feature was designed to provide generative AI summaries of TV shows and episodes. Its goal was to help viewers save time while avoiding spoilers.
However, users soon began pointing out several inaccuracies in the AI generated recaps. One major issue was noticed in the recap for Fallout.
The AI incorrectly claimed that the character The Ghoul had a flashback set in the 1950s. In reality, the scene was set in the year 2077, leading to confusion among viewers.
Apart from this, several important plot points were also misrepresented. These errors frustrated users who relied on the recap feature for accurate context.
Due to the growing criticism, Amazon decided to pull the feature. Many subscribers openly questioned the reliability of AI driven summaries.
Amazon had launched X-Ray Recaps in November 2024. The feature offered AI generated summaries based on where viewers were in a show.
The backlash grew after multiple Reddit posts gained thousands of upvotes. Following this response, Amazon chose to withdraw the feature completely.
The move highlights the challenges of using AI in content creation. Many viewers have expressed a clear preference for human curated recaps over automated summaries.
