OTT Series Reviews: Better Than Panchayat?

When Panchayat was released on Prime Video, it was set to redefine the comedy genre of storytelling- and did so successfully.

Dupahiya, starring Gajraj Rao, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Sparsh Srivastava, Renuka Shahane, Komal Kushwaha, Bhuvan Arora, and Yashpal Sharma, feels like the younger sibling of Panchayat.

With a similar storytelling style, a rural backdrop, and well-crafted characters, it almost feels like an extension of the Panchayat universe.

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a great watch. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Dupahiya premiered on Prime Video yesterday, and fans have been flooding X (formerly Twitter) with their reviews.

The plot is simple yet engaging.

In a village that has proudly remained crime-free for 25 years, chaos happens when a prized motorbike is stolen.

With the silver jubilee trophy, a wedding, and the villagers’ pride at stake, what follows is a crazy journey to retrieve the missing bike.

Packed with hilarious one-liners and stellar performances, many viewers believe Dupahiya is even better than Panchayat and Gullak.

The show subtly explores themes of togetherness, pride, and social issues such as the dowry system, gender bias, and inequality, all while maintaining a lighthearted tone.

This blend of social commentary and humour has quickly made Dupahiya a new fan favourite.

Among all the new releases on OTT platforms recently, Dupahiya stands out as a refreshing, heartwarming tale that wins over audiences effortlessly.
