Gandhari: Taapsee’s Netflix No.1 Claim Sparks Backlash?

Taapsee Pannu has responded to the criticism surrounding her Netflix film Gandhari. Sharing a post that placed Gandhari at No. 1 among Netflix’s global non-English movies despite the online criticism, Taapsee wrote, “Not everyone, I guess 🙂 When you throw lemons, we make lemonade. Cheers!”

The post was aimed at those who had criticised the film after its release, particularly Taapsee’s performance. However, several social media users reminded her that the criticism was not limited to online trolling. One user said she continues to deliver similar performances and hoped to see more variation from her in future films.

Another user questioned the film’s IMDb rating of 5.1 and asked why audiences should trust celebratory social media posts when viewers had rated the film poorly. A user also recommended Babita Singh Reporting on Prime Video and claimed that even critics who support female-led films had criticised Gandhari.

Some comments focused on the film’s technical aspects. One viewer called Taapsee a good actress but described Gandhari as a poor film with weak editing and screenplay. Another said the film was a waste of time. Others criticised its climax and asked Taapsee to accept the feedback as constructive criticism. One user also requested that she stop working with writer Kanika Dhillon.

The reactions were not entirely negative. One user offered best wishes, while others simply questioned who was watching the film. With Gandhari appearing to perform well on Netflix while continuing to face criticism for its execution, the discussion now centres on its viewership and the response to the film itself.
