After a strong theatrical run, Mirai, starring Teja Sajja and Manchu Manoj, is now ready for its digital release. Directed by Karthik Ghattamneni, the fantasy adventure film hit theatres on September 12 and will stream on JioHotstar from October 10 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Mirai impressed audiences with its stunning visuals, engaging story, and strong performances. The film grossed around ₹135 crore worldwide, making it one of the biggest hits of 2025.
Earlier, reports said the makers would keep an eight-week theatrical window before the OTT release. That would have been unusually long for a Telugu film. But now, Mirai follows the regular four-week pattern, premiering online exactly a month after its theatrical debut.
This change has stirred debate in trade circles. Some analysts claim the makers misled multiplex chains by first promising a longer window. Producers clarified that the eight-week plan applies only to the Hindi version, while the South Indian versions release earlier.
Trade experts say this breaks the uniform theatrical rule and could hurt theatre viewership, as many OTT audiences prefer the original South Indian versions. Meanwhile, social media users accuse the team of “smartly cheating” multiplexes by reducing the window to earn quicker digital revenue.
Despite the controversy, Mirai’s OTT premiere is among the most awaited this season. Fans who missed it in theatres are eager to watch its grand visuals and gripping story at home. With its box office success and positive buzz, the film is expected to draw massive viewership on JioHotstar.
