Zee TV’s new show Chhal Kapat has dropped its teaser and it looks like a murder mystery is brewing. The show is set in Burhanpur during a close-knit wedding where the celebrations take a dark turn after the sudden and mysterious death of one of the bride’s best friends.
What starts as a happy occasion turns into a thriller as hidden truths, long buried grudges and deep betrayals among a group of friends come to the fore.
The teaser has haunting music and lines like “You can’t run now truth and evidence can’t be erased” and it looks like a story where masks will fall and the real culprits will be exposed.
But director Ajay Bhuyan has his task cut out. His last film Dhada with Naga Chaitanya and Kajal Aggarwal was a disaster at the box office and so critics are sceptical about Chhal Kapat.
The concept of a murder mystery during a wedding is not new but if the show combines good writing with good performances, it can stand out.
For now, the teaser gives us cautious hope that it might be a thriller that will keep us hooked and not fall into the trap of routine storytelling.
