Netflix Originals in Tamil & Telugu: Too Many Risks

Netflix is expanding its reach in South India with six new original projects in Tamil and Telugu. The OTT giant announced that the focus this time is on strong storytelling rather than star power.

Among the new releases are Super Subbu, a Telugu comedy starring Sundeep Kishan and directed by Mallik Ram; Love, a Tamil series featuring Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi, directed by Maari fame Balaji Mohan; Made in Korea, a Tamil film starring Priyanka Mohan and directed by Ra Karthik; and Legacy, a Tamil series directed by Charukesh Sekar, featuring Madhavan, Gautham Karthik, and Nimisha Sajayan.

The remaining two are Takshakudu, a Telugu folklore thriller by Vinod Anantoju starring Anand Deverakonda, and Stephen, a Tamil psychological thriller directed by Mithun with Gomathi Shankar in the lead.

Among these, Legacy has drawn the most attention for its ensemble cast, which also includes Gulshan Devaiah recently praised for his performance in Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1.

Social media reactions are mixed. Some viewers believe Netflix has invested smartly in Legacy and Super Subbu, while others feel the rest of the projects may not attract much attention.

So far, only the posters have been released, with streaming dates yet to be announced. It remains to be seen whether these six titles help Netflix strengthen its South Indian market in the coming months.
