Oscar Nominated Desi Documentary Changes Release Date

The Academy Awards, or in more familiar terms, The Oscars are undoubtedly the world’s biggest and noblest film awards with every individual in the industry dreaming of winning it one day. However, the dream is easier said than done and in reality even making into the nominations is no less than a dream come true is treated with the highest of respect, and if none, at least privedes to your movie a level of marketing that no other event could.

But, what would be one’s reaction when a film nominated for the Oscars gets its OTT release postponed? Such is the case with Nisha Pahuja’s masterpiece of a documentary, ‘To Kill A Tiger’. Having first premiered at the 2022 edition of the prestigious Toronto International Film Award, the documentary was quick to recieve faim and all raise for a beautiful portrayal of the brutal journey and harsh reality of justice in rural India.

The film had closed a deal with Netflix for its OTT release with the streaming giant acquiring all the rights. This was a good news as Netflix boasts of being the largest and most popular streaming platform and the film deserves to be seen by as many people as possible, however it has taken a slightly inconvenient turn. The documentary had fans at the edge of their seats, waiting for its release which was today, i.e Friday the 8th, however, in a rather disappointing turn of events, it has now been to Sunday, due to undisclosed reasons.

The film dives is an emotional ride centring around the character of Ranjit, a farmer from Jharkhand, who is on the pursuit of truth and justice following the brutal rape of his 13 year old daughter. The story is an unfiltered and raw depiction of the justice system that is in place in rural areas, bringing an unnerving feeling that transcends his personal tragedy, and calls out for a much needed change in the society.
