Former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede faced a setback on Friday when the Delhi High Court dismissed his defamation complaint against Aryan Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. He alleged that Aryan’s Netflix debut The Bads of Bollywood* defamed him and damaged the image of enforcement agencies.
Wankhede’s lawyer Sandeep Sethi argued that the show was widely streamed in Delhi and even led to memes mocking him. He said this was enough to file the complaint in the Capital.
The judge disagreed. As reported by Live Law, the court said, “I am rejecting your complaint.” It noted that Wankhede had not shown a proper cause of action under Section 9 of the Civil Procedure Code. The judge added that the case did not justify being tried in Delhi.
Wankhede’s counsel asked for permission to amend the complaint. The court allowed it but made clear that the matter would not be listed unless the Registry received a proper application.
The controversy sparked ridicule online. Social media users pointed out that Aryan’s show never mentioned Wankhede or the NCB. They said the character’s resemblance to him was only superficial and that suing Shah Rukh Khan or Red Chillies Entertainment was meaningless.
Many accused Wankhede of chasing publicity. Ironically, his complaint gave the series more attention. Viewers joked that his move could even inspire a second season. In the end, his legal fight seemed to boost the show’s reach rather than protect his reputation.
