Delhi Capitals kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a thrilling 3 wicket victory over Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first. The team later completed the highest successful IPL run chase at the venue.
Chasing a target of 211 runs, Delhi Capitals produced a strong batting performance under pressure. The win helped DC move to seventh place in the points table. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, suffered their fourth consecutive defeat after a strong start to the season.
Punjab Kings earlier posted 210 for 5 in 20 overs with important contributions from multiple batters. Captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 59 runs from 36 balls, hitting five fours and three sixes during his innings.
Priyansh Arya continued his impressive form and scored 56 runs from 33 deliveries. Cooper Connolly contributed 38 runs, while Suryansh Shedge provided a late boost with an unbeaten 21 runs off only 8 balls.
For Delhi Capitals, Madhav Tiwari claimed two wickets for 40 runs. Mitchell Marsh also picked up two wickets, while Mukesh Kumar added one wicket to the bowling effort. Despite the strong Punjab total, DC managed to stay competitive.
Delhi Capitals faced early trouble during the chase after losing wickets at regular intervals. Yash Thakur dismissed Abhishek Porel, while Arshdeep Singh removed KL Rahul for 9 runs and later dismissed Sahil Parakh. Tristan Stubbs was also run out during a tense phase of the innings.
Punjab Kings appeared firmly in control after Delhi Capitals lost four wickets early in the chase. However, Axar Patel changed the momentum with a counter-attacking innings of 56 runs from just 30 balls. He attacked the bowlers aggressively before Marcus Stoinis dismissed him.
After Axar Patel’s dismissal, David Miller continued the aggressive approach for Delhi Capitals. The experienced batter scored 51 runs from 28 deliveries and kept his team in the contest during the crucial final overs of the chase.
Ben Dwarshuis eventually dismissed David Miller late in the innings. Despite that setback, Delhi Capitals managed to complete the chase successfully and secured an important away victory to remain alive in the playoff race.
Punjab Kings will be disappointed after failing to defend a total of 210 runs. Their bowling strategy struggled during the middle overs, allowing Delhi Capitals to regain control of the match. The defeat has also increased pressure on the team in the playoff race.
Questions are now likely to be raised regarding the captaincy decisions of Shreyas Iyer. Many observers felt Punjab Kings did not use Yuzvendra Chahal effectively during key partnerships in the chase. The loss has further complicated PBKS’ position in the IPL 2026 points table.
