Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2 may have bombed in theatres, but it has pulled off a surprise on Netflix. Despite facing poor reviews, the film debuted at number one on Netflix India’s Top 10 Movies list, shocking both fans and critics.
The sequel was panned during its theatrical run, with many calling it one of Devgn’s weakest films, citing poor writing and forced humour. So when it dropped on Netflix on September 26, most expected it to fade without notice.
Yet, viewers are still streaming it in large numbers, even with strong competition from recent releases like Dhadak 2, Mahavatar Narsimha, and Saiyaara. Analysts suggest curiosity about the film, combined with nostalgia for the Son of Sardaar franchise, may have driven its high viewership.
Still, reviews across social media remain negative, with audiences criticising the script and lack of genuine comedy. The real test now is whether Son of Sardaar 2 can hold its top spot or fade quickly as audiences shift to other popular titles.
