Perhaps spiders aren’t such a hassle after all, as Adam Sandler discovers in “Spaceman,” in which he obtains emotional assistance from a gigantic arachnid in deep space.
Netflix has published a trailer for Sandler’s forthcoming sci-fi feature, which will premiere at the Berlin Feature Festival next month. The film will subsequently be released in select theatres on February 23 and streaming platforms on March 1.
The film, directed by Johan Renck, who also directed the HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” is based on Jaroslav Kalfař’s novel “Spaceman of Bohemia” published in 2017.
The film’s synopsis states, “Six months on an isolated scientific mission to the edge of the solar system as an astronaut, Jakub (Adam Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind may not be ready to greet him when he returns to Earth.”
Desperate to reconcile with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), he is assisted by an enigmatic being from the beginning of time that he discovers hidden in the bowels of his ship. Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) helps Jakub understand what went wrong before it’s too late.
The trailer for ‘Spaceman’ portrays Jakub, a guy suffering from loneliness, who meets Dano’s huge spider-like monster. Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, and Isabella Rossellini are the film’s stars. Colby Day wrote the script, and Channing Tatum, Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, Michael Parets, Tim Headington, Lia Buman, Max Silva, Ben Ormand, Johan Renck, and Barry Bernardi served as producers.
