In 2019 alone, he delivered four superhits—Kesari, Housefull 4, Mission Mangal, and Good Newz—each doing business of 200 crores net. However, the situation has drastically changed post-pandemic.

Akshay Kumar has now delivered his 13th disaster in the post-pandemic era. His list of flops includes Bell Bottom, Laxmmi, Cuttputtli, Atrangi Re, Bachchan Paanday, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, Selfiee, Mission Ranigunj, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and now Sarfira.
Akshay Kumar has announced his new film Khel Khel Mein starring himself, Taapsee Pannuu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, Pragya Jaiswal, and Fardeen Khan in the lead roles.

Khel Khel Mein is the Hindi remake of the Italian comedy-drama Perfect Strangers and is scheduled to clash with Stree 2 and Vedaa on August 15.
Perfect Strangers has already been remade in 20 countries, including Spain, Turkey, Germany, Japan, Russia, and others. It was also remade in Kannada in 2018 as Loud Speaker. Jeethu Joseph made a Malayalam adaptation starring Mohan Lal titled 12th Man, which was a direct OTT release.
