Rohit Shetty’s popular comedy franchise is gearing up for its fifth instalment, and this time the scale is expected to be much bigger. As per Variety India, Akshay Kumar is set to join the film, adding fresh energy to the long running series.
Reports suggest Akshay Kumar will play a comedic antagonist who creates chaos for Ajay Devgn and the rest of the characters. If confirmed, this will mark the first full fledged comedy collaboration between Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar. The film is also said to include fantasy elements with strong slapstick humour.
The casting creates an interesting parallel, as Ajay Devgn had earlier played a villain opposite Akshay Kumar in Khakee released in 2004. If the reports are accurate, this project will become their sixth collaboration across different genres.
Apart from this, a sequel to Bhagam Bhag starring Akshay Kumar and Govinda is also expected to go on floors by mid this year. Sources claim Raaj Shaandilyaa will direct the film, although an official announcement is still awaited.
Coming back to Golmaal, familiar faces like Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, and Shreyas Talpade are returning. Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari, and Ashwini Kalsekar are also part of the cast.
Kareena Kapoor Khan’s return has not yet been confirmed, while Sharman Joshi is likely to reprise his role as Laxman. The shoot is expected to begin in late February at Mumbai’s Film City, with a 2027 release planned. Akshay Kumar will join after completing Anees Bazmee’s untitled comedy film.
