Akshay’s Next Ram Aur Shyam: Old Formula, New Confusion?

Akshay Kumar in Ram aur Shyam film

Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee’s upcoming film has finally received a title, Ram aur Shyam. According to sources, the film is an adaptation of the Telugu hit Sankranthiki Vasthunam, though the director has confirmed that the screenplay has been largely rewritten.

Anees Bazmee has stated in multiple interviews that only the core idea has been retained from the original. The film also features Vidya Balan, Rashi Khanna, and Rajpal Yadav in key roles, adding to the project’s overall appeal and star value.

The story reportedly revolves around a classic theme where one man is involved with two women. Such concepts were widely popular in the 1990s. In this film, Akshay Kumar is expected to play a character managing two parallel lives.

This narrative appears similar to Anees Bazmee’s earlier film Sandwich, released in 2006 and starring Govinda. Reports suggest that the director was emotionally connected to that project and was disappointed with its box office performance at the time.

There is speculation that Bazmee may have blended elements from Sandwich with Sankranthiki Vasthunam to create a fresh narrative. This approach could help present a familiar concept with a new treatment for today’s audience.

Akshay Kumar’s strong comic timing makes him suitable for such roles. Audiences have seen him in similar situations in Garam Masala (2005), which was well received. This new project could offer a similar entertainment experience with a modern touch.
