Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Akshay Kumar are set to reunite after a long gap for their upcoming project, Samuk. The film is expected to begin production soon and is reportedly being developed as India’s first alien thriller.
Vipul recently shared insights about the project and revealed that the original idea came from director Kanishk Verma. He stated that the screenplay took nearly two years to complete, with the team aiming to create a film that meets modern cinematic standards.
The filmmaker also disclosed that Alec Gillis, known for his work on Hollywood projects featuring similar concepts, is involved in designing the creature for the film. According to Vipul, Samuk will adopt an old-school filmmaking approach by relying more on practical effects and minimising the use of VFX.
Additionally, Luke Tumber, who has worked on films such as Mission Impossible, has joined the team to oversee the action sequences. The makers appear focused on delivering an immersive experience through practical filmmaking techniques.
Vipul expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Akshay Kumar once again, marking their seventh project together. He praised Akshay’s commitment, stating that despite his packed schedule, the actor has been actively involved in discussions related to various aspects of the film.
The makers are reportedly planning to release Samuk in theatres next year. The announcement has generated excitement among Akshay Kumar’s fans, who are eager to see him explore a new genre.
Trade analysts believe that Samuk could offer a fresh cinematic experience for Indian audiences. Many have compared the film’s genre to Hollywood franchises such as Predator and Alien, highlighting its potential to stand out in the domestic market.
However, some social media users have expressed concerns that the film should establish its own identity rather than closely following Hollywood templates. Others have questioned its box office prospects, considering Akshay Kumar’s recent struggles at the ticket counters.
A section of viewers remains uncertain about whether Akshay will regain his previous box office form by the time Samuk releases. Concerns regarding the film’s budget and recovery potential have also become part of the discussion.
Despite these concerns, many fans remain optimistic that the science fiction genre could work in Akshay Kumar’s favour. The ultimate success of Samuk may depend on its execution, originality and audience reception upon release.
