Some critics argued it was best left to an actor of his calibre, particularly one getting paid exorbitant amounts, to memorize lines.

The director Ahmed Khan reacted to the criticism by standing up for Kumar and stating that many actors use teleprompters. He said that Kumar’s improvisation, energy, and timing make up for it, and his acting is interesting.

A couple of his fans were in the same view as this and stated that if his delivery was natural, then only it was a representation of his acting skills. Others said even if he used a teleprompter, no one knew, demonstrating his skills.

The controversy has also sparked a broader discussion of acting technique, as to whether or not memorization is required in order to give a believable performance. Some adamantly believe that truth is found in spontaneity, but others believe memorizing the script is the art of an actor.

His fans continue to admire his dedication to his work, while critics remain divided on his approach.
