Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan are set to reunite for a colourful Holi song in an upcoming investigation comedy directed by Aneez Bazmee. The festive sequence marks their return as a lead pair almost fifteen years after their last major collaboration.
According to reports, the Holi sequence is expected to begin filming in the last week of March 2026. The makers are planning a large scale shoot that will feature vibrant colours, energetic music and elaborate choreography.
A report by Mid-day states that the scene will be filmed inside a Mumbai studio. The team will recreate a lively mohalla set where the characters played by Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan lead the Holi celebrations.
The sequence is expected to include around 300 to 400 background dancers. Their presence will help create a grand festival atmosphere and increase the visual scale of the celebration on screen.
Popular Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya is reportedly designing the dance number. He has already created a catchy hook step which the makers believe could trend widely on social media.
Although Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan appeared together in the multi starrer Mission Mangal in 2019, this project marks their first full romantic comedy collaboration since Thank You in 2011, which was also directed by Aneez Bazmee.
At present, Akshay Kumar is busy promoting his upcoming horror comedy Bhooth Bangla. Despite his packed schedule, the actor has reportedly managed to accommodate the Holi song shoot.
Fans are excited about the reunion because the duo delivered memorable films in 2007 such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Heyy Babyy. Their on screen chemistry from those hits still remains popular among audiences.
The upcoming film is also notable for being a Hindi remake of the 2025 Telugu film Sankranthi Vasthunam. The director has clarified that the remake will not be a frame by frame adaptation but will draw from the original premise of investigative comedy, romance and action.
