Bhooth Bangla Playing Too Safe: Why Not Full Horror?

Bhooth Bangla release Akshay Kumar Priyadarshan

Bhooth Bangla is set to release on 10 April this year and has received a U/A 16 certification from CBFC. The film has faced minimal cuts, which has come as a relief for the makers, including Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Production House and director Priyadarshan.

The film also marks the reunion of Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar after 14 years. Their earlier collaboration Bhool Bhulaiyaa became a cult classic and continues to be popular among audiences who enjoy watching it with family and friends.

Expectations are naturally high for Bhooth Bangla, but there are concerns about whether it can match the impact of Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Fans and critics are questioning if the film will offer something fresh or rely on familiar elements.

Current audience trends show a strong preference for high-intensity action and larger-than-life storytelling. Many believe that even within the horror genre, filmmakers could explore darker and more intense elements to create a stronger cinematic experience.

However, Bhooth Bangla appears to follow a lighter horror-comedy approach. This has led to doubts about its appeal, especially after audiences have already seen similar themes in Bhool Bhulaiyaa sequels featuring Kartik Aaryan.

The massive success of Dhurandhar 2 has also raised the bar for theatrical releases. Competing with such high-energy films may be challenging for a light family entertainer that does not focus heavily on action or intense thrills.
