Before its release, Border 2 faced heavy trolling online. Critics mocked it as a VFX-heavy project. Varun Dhawan became a frequent target, with memes circulating widely across social media platforms.

After release, the film received considerable appreciation from viewers. It reportedly earned around 300 crores net in India and 400 crores gross worldwide. These numbers positioned it as a commercially successful outing despite earlier criticism.

Social media critic KRK challenged these box office claims and called the film a disaster. He criticised the makers for celebrating the film’s success. He also alleged issues related to Netflix India and OTT rights valuation.

KRK claimed that Netflix India asked Bhushan to provide proof of actual theatrical earnings. He stated that Border2 was not a flop but a disaster. According to him, the OTT deal value would be limited to ₹30Cr.

Many netizens pushed back against these allegations and demanded proper evidence. While Border 2 may not be a blockbuster, audiences believe it performed well. The film continues to spark debate around its true box office status.
