Brahmastra 2 Returns: More Backlash Than Excitement?

Ranbir Kapoor in Brahmastra 2 update

Brahmastra 2 was announced a long time ago, aiming to create the Astraverse, starting with Brahmastra Part One: Shiva in 2022. As per a new update, work on Brahmastra 2 has started now, and the script is being prepared.

Ranbir Kapoor will be a part of the follow-up. While he is busy with the second part of Ramayana, he will complete filming for the movie by January 2027. He will then start filming for Brahmastra 2 in April 2027. An insider stated that Ranbir is excited to portray Dev and Shiva. Furthermore, Alia Bhatt is supposed to be a part of the film.

Director Ayan Mukerji is also discussing with Deepika Padukone to play the role of Amruta. The sequel is expected to be made on a bigger scale and explore the concepts of Indian mythology with a modern approach, bringing a new experience for the audience.

The latest update has now started a new debate on social media. Although Ranbir’s fans are excited, the neutral audience has clearly declared that no one is interested in watching the sequel since the first was not up to the mark. Trade experts have also pointed out that Brahmastra 1 was not a hit or blockbuster and that frequent delays have already killed the hype for the sequel.

However, a particular section is still interested in watching the film, but only under certain conditions. Most of them want actors like Hrithik Roshan or Ranveer Singh to portray Dev. They believe that these actors completely fit the role, considering the glimpse that was shown in the first film. Some others wrote that although Brahmastra 1 was not up to the mark, the Astraverse has the potential to correct everything that went wrong.

But the major concern for now has been the involvement of Ayan Mukerji. Netizens believe that Ayan’s decision to come out of his comfort zone has impacted his recent works, including Brahmastra 1, followed by War 2. A few also wrote that Ayan is the main reason why audiences are not interested in the YRF Spy Universe anymore.

A few even criticized Ranbir Kapoor, saying that he should now choose films that are expected to emerge as blockbusters. They said that Animal Park or Dhoom 4 would have been a better choice compared to Brahmastra 2.

In between all these, Alia Bhatt has also been targeted. A majority of social media users requested the actress not to work on the sequel since the makers wasted her in the first one by giving her a very small role. Alia’s fans also asked her to sign the film only if she gets a bigger role and something that has to do with the progress of the main storyline.

Another section said that if the sequel is being made, Dharma Productions should now look for another director instead of Ayan. Netizens advised Karan Johar to find someone who has made films of this scale in the past. Some said that a director from the South cinema also won’t be a bad choice.

The final result of Brahmastra 2 cannot be determined for now since a small announcement has only arrived. But the social media reactions prove that the hype has been created in some manner, irrespective of the fact that the decision is being criticized by a lot of people. Let’s see if Brahmastra 2 will deliver as per expectations.
