A few weeks ago, fans criticised the makers of Dhurandhar for not providing 4K DCPs to theatres for Part 1. The sequel Dhurandhar 2 is set to release on March 19, and this time the makers are sending 4K DCPs. This decision has excited fans who want to experience Aditya Dhar’s vision with sharper visual detail.
The first film was screened only in 2K resolution, which disappointed several viewers who expected a higher quality theatrical experience. For the sequel, Aditya Dhar reportedly pushed for both 4K and IMAX masters to match the scale and expectations surrounding the film’s finale.
However, there is a small catch for fans planning to watch the paid preview shows. Reports suggest that the preview screenings scheduled for March 18 will not be presented in the true IMAX format.
This means viewers who have already booked preview tickets may not experience the full IMAX presentation. Those who want the proper IMAX version are advised to book shows starting from Thursday rather than the Wednesday previews.
For viewers unfamiliar with the term, DCP stands for Digital Cinema Package. It is the digital format used to distribute films to theatres. The package contains video, audio and subtitle files that a cinema projector reads to screen the movie.
