Dhurandhar: The Revenge has returned to headlines after director Rajiv Rai filed a lawsuit against its makers. The issue revolves around the use of the song “Oye Oye” from his film Tridev.
In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Rajiv Rai expressed his disappointment. He stated that he was unaware of the song being used in the film and only discovered it after watching the movie.
He also suggested that the makers may have avoided releasing the song earlier. According to him, they likely expected legal action if the track was made public before the film’s release.
Rajiv Rai strongly criticised the move. He described the use of the song as theft and called the recreated version “trashy.” He also questioned the lack of originality in current filmmaking practices.
The director explained the delay in filing the case. He said the original agreement with T-Series required legal proceedings to take place in Delhi. This led to time being spent on arranging legal representation.
He added that he wanted the song to be removed from the film. However, the court decided to address the issue before the film’s OTT release.
Rajiv Rai also made it clear that he does not wish to speak directly with the makers of Dhurandhar. He said the matter is now in the hands of the court, which will determine whether the act qualifies as theft. The next hearing is scheduled for May 6.
Online reactions have been divided. Many users, especially fans of Rajiv Rai’s films, have supported him and called the move unfair. They believe the makers should not have used the song without proper permission.
At the same time, a section of users has raised questions about the timing of the lawsuit. Some claim it could be an attempt to gain financial benefit after the film’s success, referring to his past setbacks like Zora.
The final outcome remains uncertain at this stage. All eyes are now on the upcoming hearing to see how the case unfolds.
