Top Film Critic’s Dhurandhar Review Deleted? Shameful?

Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar has been trending for the wrong reasons ever since reviews started coming in. Film critic Anupama Chopra called it an “exhausting, relentless and frenzied espionage thriller” filled with “too much testosterone, shrill nationalism and inflammatory anti-Pakistan narratives.” Her comments triggered immediate backlash.

Hyper-patriotic fans who loved the film began targeting her online. Industry names like Paresh Rawal also trolled her. The pressure became so intense that she deleted the review from The Hollywood Reporter India’s official channel. This move only intensified the debate.

People are now criticising the makers and the PR team for going after anyone who shares a negative opinion about the film. They say cinema invites praise and criticism and both are necessary. Silencing criticism, they argue, goes against the spirit of open discussion.

Viewers stress that critics like Anupama Chopra offer subjective opinions. It is natural if the makers or fans disagree. But bullying someone for expressing what they believe is being seen as an attack on freedom of speech and fair dialogue.

Netizens have also turned their attention to director Aditya Dhar. They accuse him of leaning towards propaganda-driven filmmaking. Many say it is unfortunate that people feel unsafe to comment on his films and question the political motives behind Dhurandhar.
