BO Shock: Dhurandhar Collections Fake on Day 1?

Dhurandhar box office controversy

Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, hit theatres on 5 December 2025 and has already stirred trade circles. Allegations claim block bookings boosted pre-sales to inflate day-one numbers, pushing the film into controversy right after release.

Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller has dominated headlines for weeks, and the noise continues. Box Office India and Pinkvilla reported unusual patterns in advance bookings. Numbers reportedly shot up overnight, jumping from about 95,000 tickets to 175,000 in one chain alone.

Such a steep rise signals inflated sales created through block bookings, making the film appear like a record-breaker from day one. Pinkvilla stated that before manipulation, a Rs 15 crore opening looked realistic for the genre and better reflected true audience pull.

Reports now suggest actual interest may be less than half of what post-release figures show. Box Office India estimated that nearly 30 percent of the reported Rs 23–24 crore day-one net came from block bookings instead of real footfall.

The film was initially projected to open at Rs 40 crore, and trade trackers worry that manipulated sales may push it toward that figure. Both portals expressed concern over production houses inflating numbers for hype, calling it damaging to box office credibility.

Even with a strong cast including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan and Arjun Rampal, Dhurandhar has not lived up to its projected scale. Pinkvilla and Box Office India estimate the real day-one business at about Rs 15–17 crore, while other platforms report Rs 27–30 crore.
