Galwan vs Border 2: Patriotic Cinema or a Dirty PR War?

Galwan and Border 2 teaser debate

Riding the wave of nationalist sentiment, two big patriotic films are heading to theatres. You have Salman Khan’s Galwan releasing in April, while Border 2, backed by a large ensemble cast, is set for a Republic Day release.

As promotion picked up, you also saw the start of a PR blame game. Several Bollywood-focused online pages claimed that both films are pushing negative campaigns against each other, which they say is affecting social media reactions to the teasers.

Many fans, however, disagree with that narrative. They argue that what you are seeing online is genuine feedback, not planned negativity. According to them, the criticism comes from viewers reacting honestly to what they watched.

Some viewers feel Salman’s performance in the Galwan trailer looks cringe. They believe such feedback is necessary and gives the makers a chance to improve the final cut before release.

In the case of Border 2, starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, the major concern is excessive VFX. You may have noticed complaints saying the visuals resemble a video game rather than a grounded war film.

Many also feel the film lacks an authentic Indo-Pak war atmosphere. Instead of realism, they see heavy reliance on effects, which weakens the emotional impact expected from a patriotic story.

For both films, the message from viewers is clear. You expect the makers to move away from PR tactics and focus on improving content, realism, and performances before release.
