Following the massive success of Sunny Deol’s recently released sequel Border 2, the actor is reportedly in talks to revive another popular film from the 90s. Reports suggest that discussions are already underway for a potential new project.
According to an exclusive report by Bollywood Hungama, Sunny is currently in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, taking a short break after the success of Border 2. Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi is also expected to join him there.
Insider sources claim the meeting is special as Santoshi is set to narrate the script for Ghatak 2. The sequel is said to be based on a fresh idea developed by the veteran director.
A source revealed that Santoshi shared the concept with Sunny earlier and the actor showed interest. Sunny then invited him to Manali for a detailed narration. The meeting is scheduled for today, January 31.
The source added that Sunny will decide after hearing the full script. If he finds it exciting, they will move ahead based on availability and other factors. Sunny reportedly does not want to sign sequels just because his recent films performed well.
Both Sunny and Santoshi believe that making a sequel without strong content would disappoint audiences. They feel it is important to maintain the legacy of iconic films rather than exploit nostalgia.
Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi have worked together in Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak, all of which were major hits. Interestingly, Sunny’s upcoming film Lahore 1947 will also be directed by Santoshi.
While fans are excited about the duo reuniting, some feel Sunny is focusing too much on old franchises. Critics argue that repeated sequels could affect the original films’ emotional value.
Trade experts warn that if Ghatak 2 fails to match the impact of Gadar 2 and Border 2, it could harm the legacy of the original. Still, Border 2’s success proves Sunny Deol’s strong box office appeal continues.
