Sunita criticised certain priests for demanding large sums of money in exchange for performing pujas. She said people should conduct their own worship with devotion rather than paying others lakhs to do it for them.
According to her, true faith comes from personal sincerity, not from spending ₹2 lakh or ₹10 lakh on rituals. She argued that it’s better to wake up early, pray wholeheartedly, and build a direct connection with God.
Sunita went on to call such exploitative practices a form of “robbery,” accusing some priests of manipulating people through fear and greed. Her statements quickly went viral, leading to widespread criticism on social media.
Some users went as far as attacking her character, even suggesting that Govinda should separate from her. In response, the actor publicly apologised, saying he was sorry if his wife’s words hurt anyone’s religious sentiments.
The apology divided public opinion. Many supported Sunita, saying she merely spoke an uncomfortable truth about religious exploitation. Others felt that Govinda should not have apologised for his wife’s honest opinion.
Supporters argued that Sunita’s comments highlighted a genuine issue how blind faith can be monetised while critics saw her tone as disrespectful. The debate continues, reflecting India’s ongoing tension between faith, freedom of speech, and modern interpretation of spirituality.
