Huge Backlash: ‘On a Mission to Destroy Iconic Songs?’

Kartik Aaryan song remake backlash

Kartik Aaryan’s rising popularity in Bollywood is facing strong backlash from audiences online. Many social media users claim the actor depends heavily on song remakes in nearly every new film, which has triggered fresh criticism around his creative choices.

The debate gained traction after a user remarked that Kartik appears to be “on some kind of a mission to destroy each and every iconic song of Bollywood.” The comment resonated widely, with several users echoing similar frustration across platforms.

Posters of remake tracks were widely shared, including the title track of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Character Dheela 2.0 from Shehzada, Tu Meri Zindagi Hai from Aashiqui 3, and Saat Samundar Paar from Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. These examples fuelled the ongoing criticism.

Several users also compiled lists of remade songs and films associated with the actor. Some accused him of lacking originality, pointing out that he has spent over a decade in the industry without building a distinct filmography.

Beyond music, users criticised Kartik’s performances, claiming his dialogue delivery and comic beats feel repetitive. Many noted similarities across his films, often linking the pattern back to his breakout franchise Pyaar ka Punchnama.

As much of his work leans on nostalgia tied to earlier hits, speculation has grown about whether Kartik’s stardom was carefully curated. This perception has begun to impact his public image, with accusations of diluting already popular songs.

Not everyone agrees with the criticism. Some users argue that Kartik is only an actor and that responsibility lies with filmmakers and producers who continue to reuse familiar material.

According to this view, writers and directors are at fault for repeatedly relying on established songs and films while casting Kartik. They believe creative decisions behind the scenes deserve more scrutiny.

Still, many continue to hold the actor accountable for his script choices. Critics claim he has prioritised maintaining a “playboy” image instead of experimenting with varied roles.

With Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri featuring remade songs and releasing soon, trade observers are watching closely. Online sentiment remains divided as the film arrives amid intense backlash.

Directed by Sameer Vidhwans, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri stars Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday. The film is scheduled for a Christmas 2025 release on 25 December, 2025.
