Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon 2 has turned out to be a major flop. The film reportedly collected only 13 crore worldwide after its release on 12 December. The poor result marks a sharp downturn for Kapil Sharma’s big screen career.
The timing could not have been worse. Kapil is already facing declining popularity amid stiff competition and changing audience tastes. The film’s failure has only added to the pressure.
Kapil Sharma has entertained audiences for decades and built a strong comedy brand. However, with the rise of next generation comedians and heavy OTT consumption, his hold on viewers appears to be weakening.
Critics feel he is no longer experimenting with comedy. His satire lacks sharpness, and his approach seems overly safe in an attempt to stay relevant.
The contrast becomes more striking when compared to the past. Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon earned over 76 crore worldwide when it released in 2015. Its sequel, however, struggled badly at the box office.
The film also suffered due to tough competition. It was released during the strong theatrical run of Dhurandhar and Avatar: Fire and Ash, which dominated audience attention.
Trade experts believe the sequel failed to create a niche. Many feel that audiences in 2025 no longer connect with classic misogyny-driven humour.
Kapil Sharma’s presence on television and OTT platforms is also seen as oversaturated. This has made it difficult for him to draw audiences to theatres.
Industry observers suggest he needs to reinvent his comedy style first. Only after rebuilding his comic appeal should he focus seriously on films again.
