Mirzapur: The Movie is set for September 4, 2026 and trade already has it circled as a risky but big bet.
The first day forecast floating around is Rs. 14 to 20 crore, which is a bold call for a film that started life as a web series.
The Mirzapur IP carries a massive following.
Last season did not land as well with critics, but the numbers on streaming were still huge.
That is why the move to theatres feels less like a gamble and more like a test of how far that fan base will follow.
The idea of taking a popular series to the big screen is not new globally.
It has worked many times before.
In India it barely has a precedent, outside of comedies like Khichdi, and that was a very different audience.
This one is youth driven, loud, and built on characters people already quote, so the upside looks stronger.
The buzz in trade circles is even louder.
However, some people on the trade are expecting more than 15 crore opening.
Even films with Aamir, Salman, Akshay or Ajay do not open like that these days unless there is massive hype.
The question at the end is simple, will Mirzapur really shock.
That is the story right now.
A series trying to rewrite the rules for theatrical openings in India.
But this is to remind the readers that Awarapan 2 did Rs. 23 crore on its first day.
With this, the sequel to Emraan Hashmi’s hit of the same name was able to beat Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947, something that was creating a lot of hype ahead of its release.
If the Rs. 15 crore plus mark holds, Mirzapur will be proof that a streaming brand can walk into cinemas and play in the same league as the biggest stars.
