Akshay-Rani Mukerji: Why Oh My Goddess and Not OMG 3?

The third instalment of the popular OMG franchise is officially moving forward, with Oh My Goddess set to go on floors in February 2026. Unlike the earlier films, this chapter will not be titled OMG 3. It will introduce a fresh story within the existing universe.

Rani Mukerji will headline the film, marking her first association with the franchise. Her casting is being seen as a major shift for the series. The makers are positioning the film around a new narrative core.

Akshay Kumar, whose role in OMG 2 received strong appreciation, will return in an extended cameo. Earlier reports suggested a brief appearance. However, sources say his screen time will be similar to his role in the previous film.

Akshay Kumar has reportedly committed multiple shooting days for the project. This indicates a more substantial presence than initially expected. His role is said to play an important part in the narrative flow.

The film is directed by Amit Rai, who has had the script locked since last year. He is said to be taking a slightly different creative approach. However, the core themes that define the OMG films will remain intact.

The team is confident about both the concept and its execution. A key highlight of the project is the first-ever on-screen collaboration between Rani Mukerji and Akshay Kumar. Despite their long careers, they have never shared screen space before.

The pairing has generated quiet curiosity within the industry. Many believe their combination will add freshness to the franchise. This aspect is already being closely watched by fans.

The year 2026 is expected to be busy for Rani Mukerji. Along with Oh My Goddess, she will be promoting Mardaani 3, scheduled for release on February 27. She will also be shooting for Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King.

Oh My Goddess is expected to hit theatres in 2027. Official announcements regarding its release timeline are awaited. More updates are likely to be shared once filming begins.
