Too Big to Handle? Akshay Kumar’s Massive Gamble

Akshay Kumar in Welcome to the Jungle cast

After assembling an 18-actor lineup in Housefull 5, Akshay Kumar is pushing the scale even further with Welcome to the Jungle. The upcoming film features a massive 24-member ensemble, marking one of the largest casts seen in mainstream Hindi cinema in recent years.

Welcome to the Jungle is the third instalment of the Welcome franchise and brings together 24 actors on screen. The cast includes Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Lara Dutta and Tusshar Kapoor, along with several others.

The film is already being described as one of Bollywood’s most ambitious multi-starrers. At the same time, its enormous scale is also being viewed as a possible risk factor, with many predicting that the crowded cast could work against the film rather than in its favour.

The team recently wrapped up its year-end shooting schedule in Mumbai. The announcement came with festive messages for audiences, marking the completion of an important phase of the production ahead of its planned release.

Akshay Kumar shared a behind-the-scenes video featuring the entire cast to mark the occasion. He also hinted at appearing in two different avatars in the film, adding to the curiosity surrounding his role in the franchise.

Despite the promotional push positioning the film as a major sequel, fans of the Welcome franchise have expressed disappointment. Discussions online suggest scepticism about whether scale alone can revive the series.

Several social media users questioned the absence of Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor, who were considered key to the franchise’s original appeal. Many argued that adding more stars may not compensate for the loss of familiar faces.

Viewers also pointed out that the franchise faced setbacks earlier with Welcome Back, released in 2015. Despite featuring popular actors, the second instalment failed to meet expectations at the box office.

Concerns have also been raised about the film’s direction. Welcome to the Jungle is reportedly directed by Ahmed Khan, whose recent films Baaghi 2 and Heropanti 2 struggled to make a strong impact commercially.

With Ahmed Khan handling a crucial franchise film backed by a 24-actor cast, doubts remain about the creative balance. Many reviewers fear that Welcome 3 could potentially damage the franchise’s legacy.

Social media reactions suggest growing criticism of Akshay Kumar’s recent career choices. Users noted that the actor has yet to deliver a notable performance in 2025, increasing pressure on this high-profile project.

While scepticism dominates online conversations, a section of fans remains hopeful. Some believe the film could help Akshay Kumar reclaim his image as one of Hindi cinema’s leading comedy stars.

Scheduled for a 2026 theatrical release, Welcome to the Jungle stands as one of the biggest multi-starrer projects currently in development. The film reflects Bollywood’s increasing focus on large-scale, ensemble-driven spectacles.
