After OMG and OMG 2, Akshay Kumar is reportedly set to return with a third instalment of the series.
As Akshay Kumar wrapped up the final leg of shooting for his much-awaited collaboration with Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bungla, director Amit Rai joined him in Kerala to shoot a song with Wamiqa Gabbi for the film.
According to sources, Amit Rai had multiple ideas for OMG 3 and discussed them all with Akshay Kumar during their three-day stay.
The duo brainstormed various concepts and explored possible new directions the third film could take. The project is currently in the scripting stage, and they intend to take it on floors by the second half of 2026.
While the first part was a major success and resonated deeply with audiences, and the second instalment was a decent watch, many felt Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of Lord Shiva in the sequel was unnecessary.
According to some, the film wouldn’t have lost much of its meaning even if his divine character had been removed.
Reports suggest that the third instalment will also be a social drama set in a courtroom, much like its predecessors. However, fans are hoping that Akshay avoids inserting forced narratives where he plays god-like or overly dominant roles that don’t contribute meaningfully to the story.
Akshay is often seen portraying himself as a central or ‘larger-than-life’ character, even when it doesn’t add much to the narrative, something fans have frequently pointed out.
Given the high expectations after the success of the first two films, the stakes are now much higher. A social film like this carries a significant responsibility, and to make it work, Akshay should stop casting himself in a divine or central role that seems forceful and focus more on the storytelling aspect of the film.
