After the success of Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha, which left a strong impression on viewers, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are now rumoured to reunite for an Ayan Mukerji project. The buzz has created curiosity among fans.
Ayan’s last release, War 2, turned out to be a massive disaster. There were even rumours that several people ghost-directed the film to salvage it, though the final result failed to meet expectations. His earlier film Brahmāstra also featured Ranbir and Deepika, though not opposite each other.
Reports now claim that Ayan is working on a new film starring Ranbir and Deepika, said to be loosely inspired by Raj Kapoor and Nargis’ 1956 classic Chori Chori. Sources also say the title might be announced on December 14th, Raj Kapoor’s birth anniversary.
These rumours have sparked mixed reactions. Some fans refuse to believe the news and call it fake, while others are excited about the possibility of seeing Ranbir and Deepika together again. A few also speculate that this rumoured project could actually be Brahmāstra 2, with the duo finally appearing as co-leads.
Ayan is currently linked to several big projects, including Brahmāstra 2 and Dhoom 4. With War 2’s failure, many believe these rumours are part of disaster management to repair his image. Viewers felt that Brahmāstra had strong potential, even though Ayan could not fully deliver despite the huge budget.
War 2 failed to match the expectations set by Siddharth Anand’s War in 2019. Now, the idea of a big-budget Ranbir–Deepika film, especially one inspired by Chori Chori, has fans wondering whether Ayan’s recent setbacks will affect his upcoming lineup.
For now, fans are waiting to see whether the rumours are true and whether Ayan will actually direct this reported project.
