With just three days to go for its Diwali release, Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, has completed its censor process. The CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) has cleared the film with a U/A 16+ rating.
Maddock Films received the censor certificate on October 15. This rating means children under 16 can watch the movie in theatres if accompanied by an adult, but the board requested a few visual and audio changes before approval.
One major modification involves a kissing scene in the second half, which was reduced by five seconds. Reports suggest this edit trims almost 30% of the scene’s original duration. Fans were quick to voice their disappointment on social media over the cut.
However, many feel the change is minor compared to other films. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari had its lip-lock scene shortened by 60%, and the blockbuster Saiyaara was asked to remove 10 seconds of intimate visuals.
The CBFC also demanded three audio alterations. The dialogue “Azaadi doonga” was replaced with “Aiyaashi karata hoon,” while the name “Alexander” was changed to “Sikandar.” Additionally, the word “Ashwathama” was muted in another scene.
Another requested change was the reduction of “slurping sounds of drinking blood” to make the horror sequences less intense for the U/A audience. These edits were reportedly made without affecting the overall flow or tone of the film.
With these final tweaks, Thamma is now ready for a worldwide release on October 21. Produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, the film is expected to draw strong festive crowds at the box office.
