Rajini to NTR: Bollywood Degrades South Superstars?

Sham Sharma Bollywood South debate

The Sham Sharma Show on YouTube recently released a video criticising Bollywood‘s treatment of South Indian actors and exploring the long-standing divide between the two film industries.

The video highlights how legends like Rajinikanth, Kamal Hasan, and Chiranjeevi, who ventured into Bollywood for broader recognition, were often sidelined, stereotyped, or given secondary roles. This reflected Bollywood’s tendency to favour its own insiders over outside talent.

Adding to the irony, Bollywood has repeatedly delivered commercial blockbusters by remaking South Indian films while failing to offer fair opportunities to actors from the same industry.

The YouTuber noted that the rise of OTT platforms and films like Baahubali has significantly shifted the landscape. South Indian cinema is now enjoying pan-India success, and actors like Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Ram Charan have achieved nationwide stardom without Bollywood’s approval.

However, Bollywood projects featuring South Indian stars often fail due to poor scripts and uninspired filmmaking, which can harm the actors’ careers. The video urges these actors to choose projects wisely and push for innovative storytelling.

While many viewers praised the video for addressing industry biases, some accused the creator of promoting an anti-Bollywood narrative. Nevertheless, the discussion has sparked an important debate on inclusivity and equal opportunities in Indian cinema.
