Shraddha Kapoor will no longer be a part of Ekta Kapoor’s upcoming thriller, and the reports suggest it’s due to unreal demands from Shraddha.
After reportedly demanding a Rs 17 crore fee along with a share in the film’s profits, Shraddha was presumably dismissed from the project, and fans aren’t thrilled.
If her demands were to be fulfilled, this would’ve made her one of the highest-paid actresses in Bollywood.
PeepingMoon also reported on the issue, stating that Ekta Kapoor found the amount too high, considering the challenges women-led films face at the box office.
Recently, the film’s director, Rahi Anil Barve, has cleared up some steam regarding the controversy and has seemingly dismissed this incident as rumors.
“These are all rumors. Everything is a rumor,” Rahi answered when questioned about Shraddha’s existence.
It’s no surprise for an actress like Shraddha to demand such numbers considering her last few films have been clear box-office hits.
But does a film’s success lie solely with its star cast?
Although Bollywood in particular is known for its high-budget films, Shraddha’s demand was almost half the budget of a mid-budget film, including Stree, which was made within 25 crores.
Another issue with actors charging so much is how it inadvertently affects the budget for the rest of the team, including writers, directors, and everyone else who put more effort into bringing the film to life.
This points to a bigger issue within the industry: the unfair pay gap between actors and the rest of the crew.
Actors wouldn’t achieve their stardom if it weren’t for good mid-budget films that launched them in the first place.
It’s a cumulative effort to make something big with limited resources, and unfortunately it’s just the actors who steal all the credit for a craft that had many more involved.
