One of Worst Openings? Christmas Release, Empty Theatres

Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday starrer Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri released in theatres on Christmas. Despite being a mainstream Bollywood film, it reportedly delivered one of the weakest opening day performances for a holiday release.

Box office data shared by Sacnilk suggested the film earned around Rs 7.75 crore net in India on its opening day. However, several independent trade analysts disputed these figures and claimed the organic collection was closer to Rs 5 crore or even lower.

Despite the festive holiday advantage, TMMTMTTM failed to attract large crowds to theatres. Empty seats across multiple centres reflected poor walk in numbers, which analysts say are now visible in the film’s actual box office trend.

Social media users compared the film’s performance with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Param Sundari. Many claimed the numbers were worse, especially considering Kartik Aaryan is often seen as a crowd puller.

Some reviewers defended the film and argued that it held up reasonably well given the competition. They pointed to big releases like Dhurandhar and Avatar: Fire and Ash as major factors affecting footfall.

Several users stated that releasing the film alongside Dhurandhar and Avatar was a big mistake. They felt the makers should have chosen a better release window to avoid such heavy competition.

Apart from external factors, one user highlighted internal issues. The terrible title, weak trailer, and forgettable songs were cited as key reasons why audiences stayed away from the film.

The challenge is set to grow tougher as Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Dharmendra, is scheduled to release on January 1, 2026.

While some believe positive word of mouth could improve collections in the coming days, the film’s current box office impact remains minimal. For now, TMMTMTTM continues to struggle to gain momentum.
