Since the Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR starrer War 2 tanked at the box office, things have not been smooth for Yash Raj Studios. The setback has raised concerns about the future of its ambitious Spy Universe.
The Spy Universe was planned as a major expansion with multiple big releases. However, after the disappointment of War 2, several plans now appear to be paused as the studio reassesses its strategy.
One of the biggest developments is Tiger Vs. Pathaan being shelved due to financial concerns. The large scale project was expected to be a landmark film in the Spy Universe lineup.
Reports suggest the film could have moved forward only if Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan had agreed to reduce their remuneration. The high production cost and star salaries became a major obstacle.
Despite the losses from War 2, YRF reportedly tried to push Tiger Vs. Pathaan into production. However, budget limitations and financial risk forced the studio to halt the project.
YRF is now looking toward Alia Bhatt’s Alpha as a possible comeback film. At the same time, uncertainty continues after the reception to recent spy cinema like Dhurandhar.
Following the War 2 failure, YRF appears to be at a crucial stage. The coming releases will decide whether the Spy Universe regains momentum or faces further setbacks.
