This week’s Megastar release Bholaa Shankar has been declared an unmitigated disaster at the box office. The film is one of the biggest critical and commercial failures in recent times.
There were bad signs about the film right from the time it was announced that Chiranjeevi is going to do a remake of the 2015 Tamil film Vedalam to be directed by Meher Ramesh. As expected, the film turned out to be as it is.
The remake factor was going very against it and the kind of negative discussions that happened around the film’s release was unprecedented. The failure of Bro and Bholaa Shankar has sealed the fate of remakes in Tollywood.
A few months ago, Nagarjuna was almost committed to start a project to be directed by Dhamaka fame Bezawada Prasanna. Just before the official announcement, due to some ‘technical’ reasons, the film got shelved, reportedly.
The audience has become ruthless these days if an actor is choosing a remake, especially on social media. They are not sparing anyone no matter how big a star he is. They aren’t even ready to give the film a chance in the first place.
After seeing Bholaa Shankar’s fate, Nagarjuna must be mighty relieved now that he narrowly escaped doing another remake and invite the wrath of trolls and negativity.
