Iran-US Meme War: Iran Just Gave Balayya a Global Stage

Balakrishna has unexpectedly found himself in the middle of the Iran-US social media war. The Iranian Embassy in Zimbabwe has used a scene from Bhagavanth Kesari to respond to US President Donald Trump’s latest warning against Iran.

The embassy shared a 58-second clip featuring Balakrishna facing a group of armed men. In the scene, his character uses a manhole cover as a shield while coming under heavy gunfire before turning the tables on his attackers. The clip was posted alongside a message saying Iran is not defenseless, in response to Trump’s remarks about potentially “annihilating” the Islamic Republic.

But there is an amusing Telugu cinema twist to the whole episode. The Iranian Embassy described the footage as part of its reference to Bollywood, even though Bhagavanth Kesari is a Telugu film starring Balakrishna and directed by Anil Ravipudi. That mistake has itself become part of the online attention around the post.

For Telugu cinema fans, the bigger surprise is seeing a Balakrishna mass scene being used in an international diplomatic meme exchange. A sequence made for a commercial action film has suddenly travelled far beyond its original audience and found a completely unexpected purpose.

Balakrishna has delivered plenty of mass moments on screen, but becoming an unlikely face in an Iran-US meme war is certainly a new one.
