Once self-acclaimed Peace President Donald Trump has made shocking remarks about the ongoing conflict with Iran, showing no signs of backing down despite repeatedly claiming the US has already won the war.
In an interview with NBC on Saturday, the US president said American forces might bomb Iran’s key oil hub at Kharg Island “a few more times just for fun.” The remark came even as he claimed the site had already been “totally obliterated.”
At the same time, the president ruled out a quick peace deal with Iran. Trump said Tehran wants an agreement, but he is not interested yet because “the terms aren’t good enough.”
Trump’s statement follows a major US strike on Kharg Island on March 13. The small island under Iran’s regime is the country’s main oil export terminal and a major pillar of its economy.
Trump claimed the earlier US strikes had “totally decimated” military targets on the island. However, he also said American forces intentionally avoided hitting the oil infrastructure because rebuilding it would take years.
Despite the devastation, Trump casually suggested more attacks could follow, sparking backlash from even his supporters. The global oil market is already on the edge with the ongoing war and prolonging it can have long-term effects on innocent lives.
