Ram Charan’s Peddi is already carrying huge expectations as one of the biggest Telugu releases of 2026. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the multi-sports action drama is gearing up for a grand worldwide release on June 4. But even before the film reaches theatres, an old mystery surrounding its origin has once again become a major discussion point in Tollywood circles.
For a long time, many fans believed Peddi was originally planned with Jr. NTR. during the COVID lockdown phase. Industry buzz at the time repeatedly suggested that Buchi Babu was developing a sports-based emotional drama for NTR. But as time passed, Tarak opted out of the film and Ram Charan accepted it.
However, Buchi Babu has now shared a very different version of the story. According to the director, Peddi was conceived for Ram Charan right from the beginning, even before the release of his debut film Uppena. Buchi Babu reportedly revealed that while planning his second project itself, he had already imagined Charan in the lead role.
He also explained that the central character, who works in a sugarcane warehouse, was always called “Peddi” from the earliest stages of writing. The director further claimed he still has old screenshots, notes, and development material proving the concept was originally designed with Ram Charan in mind.
At the same time, some industry insiders believe the project may have briefly moved toward NTR during discussions before eventually returning to the actor for whom it was initially written.
That aspect is now creating even more curiosity because emotionally driven rural characters often work best when directors shape them around an actor’s strengths from the start. Fans are now wondering whether Peddi’s emotional intensity, aggression, and rural flavour were specifically crafted around Ram Charan’s screen presence.
The film is being described as a rugged emotional sports-action drama packed with rural emotions, mass moments, and intense character drama. Combined with the expectations surrounding Ram Charan after RRR, trade circles are closely watching whether Peddi can emerge as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
With the trailer launch approaching and promotions expected to intensify soon, Peddi is steadily becoming one of the most closely watched Telugu films right now.
