Ilayathalapathy Vijay is one of the top stars of Tamil cinema world today among the current generation of stars. He has an enviable following and box office records when it comes to Tamil cinema. But the sad thing for him is that unlike his contemporary stars like Ajith, Suriya or Vikram he isn’t known that well to the Telugu audience.
With his contemporary stars enjoying the benefits of Telugu market Vijay too tried his luck for the first time couple of years ago. He got the most popular Tamil director in Telugu on board, Shankar, but the end result was far from satisfactory. Later he came with the second most popular Tamil director in Telugu, AR Murugadoss, however the result was the same. On the third attempt he came up with a film in the direction of AL Vijay, no change in the result though.
The really hurting fact here was that on two of those occasions the actor got completely empty field in Telugu to make inroads. When Thuppakki was released there was no big Telugu film in sight and when Anna released all biggies were indefinitely postponed. But on both the occasions he failed to make any sort of mark what so ever.
And now once again the star is coming with a highly anticipated film Kaththi. Once again it is directed by a popular Tamil director who is also hot in Telugu. He has a heroine in the form of Samantha, who is at her peak career wise in Telugu, for company. And finally the film will release, once again, at a time when there would be no Telugu biggies in sight. So the question is can Kaththi do what Thuppakki couldn’t?
