“The concept for this story emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. The inspiration behind it was the Malayalam film ‘Hero,’ although ‘Custody’ will have commercial elements catering to the needs of Telugu and Tamil audiences. The idea was to narrate the story of an ordinary constable with ambitious aspirations. While watching the movie ‘Love Story,’ I envisioned Naga Chaitanya in the suitable role after watching him in a song of ‘Love Story’. I narrated the story to him, and he was extremely fond of it, which led to the making of the film,” explained Venkat Prabhu, discussing the genesis of the project.
Speaking about the film, he said, “From the pre-interval to the climax, ‘Custody’ delivers an edge-of-the-seat thriller. We have tailored this film to cater to the tastes of both Telugu and Tamil audiences. The subject matter is universal, ensuring that everyone can enjoy it. The screenplay maintains a fast-paced narrative, keeping viewers engaged throughout.”
He also adds, Arvind Swami will be an asset to the film. “Aravind Swami was chosen with the idea of portraying a character on-screen who appears more powerful than Chaitu. The audience will be excited to see how Chay controls such a powerful character is evident. Similarly, Sharath Kumar’s role is also portrayed as a powerful figure”.
The director says Chay’s character will be fresh and unique in the film. “Naga Chaitanya is an incredible actor. In this film, he will be seen in a new avatar. I enjoy presenting heroes differently in my movies, and I find it appealing to showcase Chay in a distinct manner. He looks very fresh and unique in this role. We have designed the action sequences in a highly innovative way. Everything about it feels fresh,” he said.
