The Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Slumdog Millionaire and 28 Days Later, Danny Boyle, is back with the highly anticipated sequel 28 Years Later. This post-apocalyptic thriller continues the chilling saga of the rage virus while blending a gripping storyline with innovative cinematic techniques.
What truly sets 28 Years Later apart is not just its intense narrative but also its unique filming approach. Boyle shot a major portion of the movie using the iPhone 15 Pro Max, delivering a raw and immersive visual style reminiscent of Dev Patel’s Monkey Man, where similar smartphone filming techniques were used.
After a successful theatrical run, the film has now arrived on Amazon Prime Video, but only as a premium rental. Indian viewers can watch it for ₹249, which has sparked outrage among subscribers. The frustration comes at a time when Prime Video is already facing backlash for introducing ads and now experimenting with rental pricing for big titles.
The move appears to be a test to gauge whether Indian audiences are willing to pay extra for early digital access to major releases. However, social media reactions indicate more criticism than support, with many users calling this an unnecessary burden on subscribers.
Despite the controversy, 28 Years Later remains a must-watch for fans of the genre and Danny Boyle’s filmmaking brilliance. Whether it’s for the gripping story or the bold choice of shooting on an iPhone, the film continues to push boundaries, even if its OTT release strategy has left audiences divided.
