Cillian Murphy will be participating in the movie version of 28 Years Later. The film is now under development and will be the third edition of the terror franchise. The original 2002 film, 28 Days Later, featured a rage virus that turned the majority of the country’s inhabitants into aggressive, mindless beasts.
Cillian Murphy played bicycle messenger Jim, who awoke from a coma in a dramatically changed world. Jim was not seen in the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, which featured a group of individuals seeking to repopulate the region after the disease was allegedly eradicated.
Cillian Murphy will return in the next film 28 Years Later. Murphy will serve as executive producer on the movie, which Sony acquired following a vigorous bidding battle, with returning director Danny Boyle and returning writer Alex Garland. Although Murphy may reprise his role as Jim, no onscreen presence has been formally confirmed as of yet.
In 28 Days Later, Jim and his friends Selena and Hannah survive the impending rescue of infected people after the famine. However, their fate is not established in 28 Weeks Later, implying that they may have survived. The likelihood of Jim’s return is contingent on Murphy’s commitment to a more committed position, maybe as a producer.
Murphy’s Oscar nomination for Oppenheimer in 2023 may allow him to shoot a cameo appearance on Jim’s Destiny. Jim’s return to the post-apocalyptic horror genre is backed by his role in A Quiet Place Part II. Despite Murphy’s absence, the film has reunited three important characters from the first 28 Days Later, raising the prospect of further characters returning.
