After gaining recognition at Cannes 2025 and securing a top slot at TIFF50, Homebound is set to close the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) on August 24, 2025. The film features Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa in leading roles and has been receiving global acclaim for its heartfelt storytelling and emotional complexity.
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Karan Johar, the film has stirred audiences and critics alike. Karan Johar called Homebound “a story of aspiration, identity, and the quiet heartbreak that comes with change,” praising its power to leave a lasting impression. The film’s resonance has been a talking point throughout its international festival journey.
Neeraj Ghaywan explained that the movie delves into “the fragile threads of friendship, ambition, and the emotional cost of breaking free to come into your own.” With such themes, Homebound taps into the universal human experience, further elevating its global appeal.
Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese joins the project as executive producer. Moved by Neeraj’s earlier film Masaan, Scorsese called Homebound a “beautifully crafted film” and a “significant contribution to Indian cinema,” boosting its international credibility.
Although the official theatrical release is still under wraps, anticipation continues to grow. With a strong presence at major festivals and the support of names like Johar and Scorsese, Homebound could be India’s next big Oscar contender.
